米上院多国籍企業小委員会で、ロッキード社が航空機売込みのために、日本、オランダ、イタリア、トルコなどに工作資金を不正に支払った事実が公表される（ロッキード事件の発端）。日本へは児玉誉士夫や丸紅に合計約1000万ドル（約30億円）支払っていたことが分かる。

ロッキード事件、上院委員会に投込まれたロッキード社の機密資料により開かれた上院外交委・多国籍企業小委員会の公聴会で、ロッキード社副社長のＡ．Ｃ．コーチャンが証言し、ＩＤ社を通じ200万ドルを日本高官に流したこと、児玉誉士夫を通じて小佐野賢治と接触したこと、丸紅役員2人が日本政府高官への資料提供を進言したことなどを明らかにする。
