南シナ海のベトナム沖のトンキン湾で、アメリカ海軍空母フォレスタルが、艦上のF-4ファントムⅡ戦闘機の電気トラブルからズーニー・ロケット弾に引火し爆発、炎上する事故発生。死者134名、負傷者161名を出し、アメリカ海軍空母として第2次世界大戦以降最悪の惨事。
